Heya guys,
Haven't uploaded much in a while, mainly because I've been very busy with school but here is a little something I'm working on at the moment.
It is going to be an loop able animation of a machine for a schoolproject named 'Pumping Memory'.
If you wanna now more about this project and see some WIP animations you can find the Blenderartist-thread here: [link]

The entire machine is controlled by 1 empty linked to the other objects using constraints and a rig.

When this project is done the machine will be shared on blendswap [link to be added].

Heya, Thanks for the comment, Learning Blender always is a nice way to pass the time, or at least thats how I experienced it. the good thing about it being freeware als means that there is a a lot of free educational material to be found online. The two best websites I found are Blendercookie.com [link] (This site has a very good series on getting started with Blender) and blenderguru.com [link] (Blenderguru is Australian like yourself XD bonuspoints!). if you ever are in need of good modelsheets/blueprints fro vehicles, weapons, etc. this website will be of great help for you in future: [link] I know this is advice you probably got alreaddy and din't ask for in the first place XD but I find it never hurts sharing a few websites with other Blender-users. Cheers :D

Love it.

I like especially that the wheels all turn at the correct rate with respect to one another, as far as I can tell. I.e. the machine works.

Heya Golem1 :)
Always nice to hear from you.
Yeah the wheels all turn at the correct rate, and another fact you might find interesting to hear is that the entire machine is controlled by 1 empty. All the gears, the pump's rig and the pistons are linked to eachother using limit rotation, copy rotation, transformation and copy location constraints.
It took me a few days to get the setup right, since it's the first time I used constraints for real.
Rendering the material-turntable at the moment. which will take till tomorrow :( (2 min 30 sec per frame 720 frames started at 0:00 this morning currently at frame 355)

If you wanna take a closer look at the model, I'm gonna upload it to blendswap when the project is done.
Thanks for the comment and favorite and cya around!

Eager to see the model. It sounds like it would be very educational.

Need to get a "render farm", but would be expensive probably. I'm wondering if a collection of Raspberry Pi computers would have enough RAM per CPU to run a render engine...

I'll be allright XD I get 15 minutes every 3 hours to cool my computer down, so my computeraddiction doesn't suffer because of it. besides now I have time to do some schoolwork and old-fashioned drawing XD you can rent a server for just a couple of bucks/hour and that would be able to complete this animation I am rendering now on full HD instead of 75% and on 50 samples instead of 20 samples. and that in only 4/5 hours. so that would mean that for like $40 you get it rendered. but I rather spend that $40 on something else and most renders are done overnight anyways. Cheers XD
